Welcome to my blog
Hello, you may be visiting my site having seen me taking part in the new series of the BBC BIG Painting Challenge. I am an amateur artist with a background in arts education having attended Bretton Hall College in Yorkshire, however my career took me in a different direction so I have not practised art properly in over twenty years.
My motivation for being on the Painting Challenge was to develop my skills and get back into art. I enjoy working in a variety of media from acrylics to watercolours however my main passion is embracing colour and you will see that my work often captures bright colour.
I enjoyed my time on the programme - meeting the group of artists for the first time in Glasgow was amazing and I feel I have made some amazing friendships. Previously we had been asked to bring items for a still life, my sundae glass filled with ice cream sprinkles is a reference to the ice cream parlour I own with my husband. He and I decided we wanted to have a total change of lifestyle so we moved from our landlocked cottage in Royal Wootton Bassett in Wiltshire to Saint Anne’s on The Sea where we created Silly Moos - an ice cream parlour where we make every ice cream fresh in front of our customers.
Restarting my art was just another part of taking a chance and creating a new life, we felt that life is for living! I decorated our ice cream parlour with bright colours and murals and it was doing this that encouraged me to apply for the show.
An exciting day in Birmingham painting and being interviewed led to a phone call and the rest, as they say is history!
Over the coming days I will be sharing some ideas and tips to help you discover your own art and to help you develop your skills to allow you to create amazing pictures you will be proud of.
